Partnering with Stantec’s K-12 interior design team, we developed a series of wall graphics for three major stairways in the new Memorial Drive Elementary School. The team wanted the graphics to reflect the biophillic design concept, the trees featured at the entry and courtyard, and to draw inspiration from nature in general.
The front stair graphic by the main entry features the school’s mascot, the pony, and color, red, to inspire school spirit and energize students. Large trees and natural elements on all three graphics speak to the ideas of growth and development.
Detailed illustrations over colorful painterly backgrounds create a stained-glass effect which feels sophisticated yet stil appropriate for younger children. Small “easter egg” elements like birds, butterflies, insects, and squirrels are hidden throughout the designs for students to discover.
